Biographie

  • Born in 1950 in Herzberg am Harz
  • Primary and secondary education in Backnang, Baden-Württemberg
  • 1972-1979: Studied sociology, political science, history and German language and literature at the University of Göttingen
  • 1980-1981: Student internship and "Zweites Staatsexamen" (second-level civil service exam) in Göttingen
  • 1982-1985: Doctoral scholarship from the Hans Böckler Foundation
  • 1986: Doctorate received from the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Göttingen
  • 1986-1988: Research associate with the "Stadtgeschichte Salzgitter" working group (project: Drütte Concentration Camp Memorial Site)
  • 1988-1994: Diverse research projects at the Central Socioscientific Research Institute, Freie Universität Berlin (under Prof. Theo Pirker) and at the University of Göttingen (under Prof. Wolf Rosenbaum)
  • Since 1995: Research associate at the Sociological Research Institute in Göttingen (SOFI)
  • 2005: "Habilitation" (post-doctoral lecture qualification) in sociology received from the Department of Social Sciences at the University of Göttingen 
  • Since 2006: Director of the Sociological Research Institute in Göttingen (SOFI)
